Horse Racing - General Information
Trainer Aidan O’Brien is renowned for having success all around the world, and the Irishman has revealed that he is targeting the Breeders’ Cup Classic in 2024 with Auguste Rodin, his star three-year-old colt.
The Breeders’ Cup Classic is the feature race at the Breeders’ Cup World Championship meeting and in 2024 it will take place at Del Mar Racecourse in California. O’Brien has yet to win the dirt contest, but he will believe he has an excellent chance next year with his dual Derby winner.
Colt to Remain in Training
The move to keep Auguste Rodin in training as a four-year-old is one is a huge boost for the sport. O’Brien has said he will be considering all the major middle-distance races next season, including the 2024 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe where he is +2000 in the bet on horses market.

O’Brien’s leading three-year-old fulfilled his potential at Epsom back in June when he won the Derby, the most prestigious Classic in Europe. He followed that up with a success in the Irish equivalent just a month later at the Curragh. Auguste Rodin proved himself against the older generation when he landed the Group One Irish Champion Stakes in September, beating a strong field that included Luxembourg, Nashwa, Alflaila, and Onesto.
Breeders’ Cup Triumph in Breeders’ Cup Turf
When he appears at Del Mar in 2024 at the Breeders’ Cup, Auguste Rodin will be looking to complete a rare double, as he recorded victory on turf at the meeting in 2023. The son of Deep Impact landed the Breeders’ Cup Turf, giving his trainer a record-extending seventh success in the race.

Auguste Rodin beat a field that included rivals from Europe, Japan, and the United States at Santa Anita. He was driven to the front by jockey Ryan Moore with two furlongs to go and he was able to hold on by less than a length ahead of the Japanese-trained Up To The Mark.
The surface will be a lot different for the Breeders’ Cup winner in 2024 as he will run on dirt for the first time. All 10 of his career appearances to date have come on turf. O’Brien is likely to give him at least one appearance on either dirt or the all-weather before he travels to California.
Only Two European Horses Have Won the Breeders’ Cup Classic
The stats are going to be against Auguste Rodin in the 2024 Breeders’ Cup Classic, as only two European-trained horses in history have been successful in the Grand Slam of Thoroughbred Racing event. Arcangues was victorious for Frenchman Andre Fabre in 1993, while in 2008, British trainer John Gosden was triumphant with Raven’s Pass.
Over the last 10 years, American Pharoah, Arrogate, Gun Runner, Knicks Go, and Flightline have all been successful in the race, and they look set to enter the US Hall of Fame in the near future. Should Auguste Rodin add his name alongside those horses, he would make a case for being one of the best European horses of his generation.
The 2024 Breeders’ Cup Championship takes place between November 4-5, with the feature race, the Breeders’ Cup Classic, coming on the second of those two days.

In 2013, the great Yankees baseball pitcher Mariano Rivera announced his retirement. It was a strange final season, as Rivera’s travels with the Yankees around the baseball parks of America saw the legendary ball hurler receive standing ovations from rival teams and fans while remaining competitive as he strove to deliver success for the Yankees. What has that got to do with horses? Nothing, really. Except for the fact that we can draw parallels between one of the greatest pitchers in MLB history and one of the greatest jockeys in the history of horse racing, Frankie Dettori.
Like Rivera, Dettori has announced his retirement a year in advance. So across 2023, he has been saying goodbyes at the biggest and best horse racing venues around the world. He plans to have his final rides at the Breeders’ Cup Festival in November. Obviously, it provides a fitting backdrop to end a glittering career, but it will be at Ascot in England in October where the most emotional farewells will be said.
The Magnificent Seven at Ascot
Ascot and Dettori are wrapped up in each other’s history. Last month, Dettori extended his record to nine Ascot Gold Cup wins, with only Lester Piggott winning more. It was at Ascot where he forged his superstardom in the early 1990s, winning his first two Gold Cups and a host of other Group 1 events. It is where the crowds – including the royals – love him the most. Of course, it is also the scene of his crowing achievement on September 28th, 1996 – the Magnificent Seven.
For a jockey to win all seven races on an elite card, as was the case at what is now called British Champions Day at Ascot in 1996, cannot really be compared to feats in other sports. It wasn’t like, say, winning seven Super Bowls in succession; perhaps more like a star quarterback winning seven successive Super Bowls with seven different teams. Importantly for the feat, only a couple of the horses were favorites. The accumulative odds were over 25,000 to 1.
A Feat Never to Be Repeated
The Magnificent Seven has become one of the most fabled parts of British racing history and sports history in general. He single-handedly cost the UK betting industry around £30 million ($45 million). The feat has been celebrated in a range of online casino games, Franke Dettori’s Magic Seven slots, which bear the jockey’s image. Everyone connected to British racing remembers it. And if they are too young to remember, their parents will tell them about it.
Of course, Ascot is special in British racing, and it would be that way whether Dettori had a glittering career or not. It has those incredible royal connections and patronage – its main festival is called Royal Ascot for a reason – and it hosts some of the most important Group 1 races in the world. But Dettori is now Ascot royalty himself. Not just for the Magnificent Seven, although that forms a firm part of the Ascot legend, but for the countless winners and thrills he has given to the Ascot crowds over the last forty years.
British Champion Day at Ascot 2023 will take place on October 21st. It is almost certainly going to be Dettori’s final hurrah in the saddle in the UK. He’ll say goodbye to horse racing in the United States, but the venue where his most glittering accolades were collected will have the most magnificent farewell for one of horse racing’s true greats.

Wagering on horse racing events is fun and exciting, especially the upcoming Breeders' Cup starting November 3rd this year. With all the glitz, action, and anticipation horse racing has brought to many people in the country, it’s no wonder why pro and casual bettors are flocking for a big win.
Whether you're a starting or a returning player in the industry, this article is for you. This article covers the essential Do's and Don'ts of horse racing betting in preparation for the upcoming series cup. Read more below to be a competent and responsible bettor today.
The Do's
The following are must-do practices in the Breeders' Cup 2023; check out below and add them to your betting strategy.
Do Research
Information is the critical component to having a successful betting season. With so much news and information made available on the internet, it would be a waste of opportunity not to prepare ahead and take pointers of the updates and rumors of the horse racing world.
Keep tabs and bookmark your preferred betting sites and news for the latest updates on the upcoming cup, especially on current public favorites and rumored participants in each race. You must clearly set your expectations before the cup and anticipate changes on the betting lines.
Simply put, the more you know, the more prizes you can get. That alone should motivate you to study.
Do Vary Your Bets
This means spreading your wagers and discovering several betting games to broaden your skills and knowledge as a bettor. In the sports betting scene, it is essential that you become a competent bettor to be knowledgeable in various betting games that could potentially play in your favor.
In horse racing, you are not just betting on the winning horse, but on various outcomes you can maximize. Besides, online betting websites offer so many games and odds at different outcomes on a race that you can use them to your advantage.
Do Track Your Activities
The ability to adjust between gaming sessions separates a rookie from a professional bettor. Depending on the betting lines or the state of your wagers, you need to adapt to it and make the most profitable action to minimize losses and maximize opportunities. One way to do that is to track your activities.
By keeping a simple activity sheet and diligently recording all your wagers, you can create an invaluable document to study and use to improve your plays over time. This is especially helpful in losing streaks to determine what causes your losses and wins. Which, in turn, helps you turn over that loss.
Don'ts
These are the cardinal sins of sports betting. Under any circumstances, never do these things if you're opting for a fulfilling and profitable betting experience.
Don't Be Trigger Happy
This means betting before thinking. Admittedly, many casual bettors do wager betting lines without thinking twice about the probability, statistics, and odds.
This results in unreliable odds and a significant risk of losses. That said, never bet on a line you are not confident or knowledgeable about, regardless of how low-risk it is; not knowing anything other than betting on it can be seen as a guaranteed loss. To become a competent bettor, the idea is to minimize losses through knowledge and proper decision-making, not randomly betting and hoping for luck.
Don't Bet While Drunk
Similar to drinking while driving, betting while drunk also garners the same dangers, especially if you're dealing with money.
A competent bettor knows how to play with a clear mind and mood. Beer and liquors dull your senses and inhibit your capacity to make rational decisions. That said, most sportsbook stalls in arenas exploit this by offering such drinks on table stands and other foods and improving your experience.
While we don't discourage you from enhancing your betting experience with consumables, consider moderation, especially on liquor. The last thing you want to know is that you've spent too much on betting while drunk and experiencing the consequences while getting sober.
Don't Chase Losses
Perhaps this is one of the most common warnings you'd see everywhere and for a good reason. Many bettors fall into this financial trap of chasing losses.
By definition, chasing losses is repeatedly placing bets to recover their losses, only to fall further until it affects their personal lives. Unfortunately, millions of rookie bettors and gambling addicts fall over this. Many sports betting guides discourage would-be bettors from chasing their losses.
Instead, always take a step back and relax. As a rule of thumb, if you're betting to get back your losses and not earning, that's the time you need to take a long pause or just quit. The worst thing you can do is dry up your savings and be in a financial crisis.
Final Thoughts:
With the upcoming Breeders' Cup approaching, many bettors are eyeing for the best updates and strategies to take a slice in this million-dollar event. Everything starts with research and due diligence in preparing yourself before race day.
The Do's and Don'ts above signify the essential points of being a competent bettor. Take note of this, and surely you can climb from being a casual to a professional bettor in time for the Breeders' Cup 2023!

The United States is the home of many major horse racing events that are viewed in all corners of the planet. There are historic events that have been going on for more than 100 years, and more recently established events that have grown in popularity and offer huge prize purses.
But what is more important when determining which is the biggest race overall? Does an event's historical significance hold a larger bearing than the potential earnings on offer?
The Breeders' Cup Classic
The Breeders' Cup Classic was inaugurated less than 40 years ago with the first event having run in 1984. Despite being a much more modern integration than some other events, it has emerged as one of the major races in the world.
It represents the final major race on the US calendar, meaning we are yet to be treated to the stunning spectacle in 2023. In a bet on horse racing with Paddy Power, Arcangelo is the outright favorite to win the event at odds of +250. Geaux Rocket Ride is seen as the most likely competitor offered at +500 in a Breeders' Cup bet online.
The Breeders' Cup Classic offers the largest prize purse of any US horse race, it was around $6 million in 2022. Flightline was the champion in 2022 and claimed the largest share of the purse as a result.
The headline event is placed as one of the most lucrative races in the entire world when it comes to events that do not require huge entry fees.
The standout event at the Breeders' Cup is also extremely exclusive but for competitive reasons. 'Win and you're in' events are held all over the globe, meaning that major race winners from various regions come together to contest a true world championship.
Did you know that, since 1984, 16 different countries have bred a #BreedersCup champion?

The Breeders' Cup Classic offers arguably the strongest competition of any US event due to its huge international participation. The huge prize it offers to the frontrunner is of course another huge factor in regards to its status in America and beyond.
The Kentucky Derby
The Kentucky Derby has a level of prestige that no other race in the nation can compare to. It is the oldest race in the United States having run since 1875, and is one of the oldest races on Earth in general. Next year's event will represent the 150th anniversary of the Kentucky Derby with plans well underway to celebrate the occasion.
There were 3️⃣ Triple Crown winners in the 1930's.
— Kentucky Derby (@KentuckyDerby) September 1, 2023
Can you name all three? ⤵️ pic.twitter.com/F42IlMF0Ot
It certainly represents the pinnacle of the triple crown of racing, with the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes not quite capturing the same level of worldwide interest.
The race is hugely significant in the sporting world and is commonly known as 'the most exciting two minutes in sports'. It is undoubtedly the most famous race of the traditional triple crown of US racing.
The Derby also brings in the biggest in-person viewers, with an attendance of 150,335 at the 2023 event making it one of the highest attended contests in the history of sport.
Churchill Downs - where the Kentucky Derby is held - boasts a capacity of 170,000. Meanwhile, the Breeders' Cup venue alternates each year and this year it will be held at Santa Anita Park which has a maximum capacity of just 85,000. The latter prioritizes a high level of competition and wide representation over ticket revenue.
The Derby certainly has a level of history and prestige that can topple a majority of the horse racing events held all around the world. However, the Breeders' Cup Classic offers a truly international competition, which allows the Derby winner to face off against some of the strongest horses around the world in the succeeding event.
The Breeders' Cup Classic crowns a genuine World Champion - a title that the Derby simply does not offer to the winner. Prestige is always a factor, but the newer competition's superior prize purse and stronger and more diverse competition make it arguably the biggest race in the US right now.

Horses have been our companions for six millennia now. Whether as war comrades, beasts of burden, or family pets, horses have endured as an invaluable member of human society. However, when an animal is as strong and majestic as a horse, it isn’t surprising that some person thought it would be a fun time to race them
Horse racing has been around for centuries, and throughout all that time it has remained incredibly popular. Not only doe races draw in huge crowds of fans, interested to see their favorite horse win, but they also draw in a large amount of betting. In this article, we would like to provide you with a brief guide to horse betting, in case you are curious about the sport.
Where can you bet?
Horse racing enthusiasts have several options for betting in 2023. The first one is obviously a sports shop. Land-based bookies still exist, and if you want to visit one with your friends you will have no problem doing so.
However, much more popular are sports betting websites. There are a ton of excellent websites that cover a wide variety of sports, including horse racing. An excellent source for locating the best website is Betstation, where you can find bookies like Betway that offer excellent services to punters.
There are several benefits to using online sportsbooks. The big one is convenience. You can access these sites using any electronic device, and place a bet whether at home or on the go. Another reason for their popularity are the generous bonuses that they offer, which makes betting easier and a lot more fun.
How do you bet?
There are several different bet types that you can place on horses. The simplest one is a “To Win” bet. As you might assume, a “To Win” bet is simply wagering on a horse to win. Hence the name. “To Win” bets are simple, easy, and fun, which is why they are the most popular.
However, if you want to take betting a step further, you can take a higher risk. An Exacta bet entails wagering on the first two horses to finish the race. However, the catch is that you have to guess the order. In other words, if your top two choices finish in the order that you did not predict, you lose the bet.
Finally, there is the Trifecta. A trifecta bet means that the bettors are wagering on the first three horses to finish a race. Much like an Exacta, the bettor has to guess the exact order, otherwise, their money goes down the drain.
Famous Horse Races
Finally, we are going to give a brief list of the most popular horse races in 2023. Some, you certainly have heard of, and others might be new to you. In either case, if you are new to horse racing, this is where to start.

Horses have been a big hit in the world long before slots even entered the market. Horse racing exists for a very, very long time.
The very first modern horse race took place in 1776 in New England, the St. Leger. That was just the beginning. Over the decades that followed, these events have attracted huge crowds. Today, horse racing is one of people’s favorite sports and betting opportunity, which made it a great idea for casino gaming, too.
Celebrating the Beauty of Horses: Equine-Themed Slot Games
Now here’s where the real fun starts – you can now play equine-themed slots! These aren’t traditional slot machines. They are a tribute to the graceful horses and combine the thrill of gambling with the presence of these creatures. Just picture it – the spinning reels with symbols like mares, stallions, and wild mustangs. They make for the horse fan’s top gambling choices! What sets these slots apart is their ability to show the horses’ elegance. In them, you’ll be transported to meadows and racing fields.
Let’s take a look at some equine-themed slots you can try:
- Frankie Dettori’s Magic Seven
Dettori is an Italian jockey who raced in Britain, and one of the most successful people in the sport. Inspired by him, Playtech created one of its best slots ever, the Frankie Dettori’s Magic Seven.
The jockey made horse racing history when he rode all 7 winners to victory at Ascot. To celebrate him, Playtech created this 5-reel, 25-payline slot with a jackpot of 7,777 times your bet!
- Champion of the Track
NetEnt has created many titles with different themes over the years, and to celebrate horses, they created Champion of the Track, a similarly themed game to our previous choice. This game will take you back to the horse racing board games like Totopoly and Escalado. It has 5 yields and 30 paylines and is filled with symbols from the track. In it, the jokey is the wild while the horse is the scatter.
- Ascot Sporting Legends
If you are a horse racing fan, this slot is perfect for you. It’s a Playtech creation with 5 reels and 25 paylines. It offers frequent wins thanks to its features like the 3 wilds, multipliers, and the option to win a progressive jackpot!
Betting on Horse Racing vs. Equine Slot Games
These are two different forms of horse-powered gambling thrill. Horse racing is a centuries-old tradition that has always kept people at the edge of their seats. People have been rooting for their favorites for ages.
Equine-themed slots offer a similar rush and yet, a very different experience. You needn’t wait for the race day, and you can enjoy a different betting system and rewards.
Future Trends in Equine-Themed Slot Games
The future of equine-themed slots looks very promising. Technology continues to progress and we are looking at new trending sites that offer a myriad of games all the time. Take, for instance, Kitty Bingo and their rewarding bonus. You can now access many of your favorite games and even get rewarded just for choosing a website – that’s how far the online gambling world has progressed!
Responsible Gambling and Player Awareness
Before we end this post about betting on horse-themed slots, we should stop to talk about responsible gambling. There are so many choices for horse betting and casino games that feature this beautiful animal, but it’s important to keep your excitement in check and stay within your budget. The games are all about fun – not about chasing losses.
Conclusion
In the years that follow, we can expect amazing things. VR might just take us to the racetrack even when we are at home. Famous jockeys might collaborate with software companies and join the slot reels. All that’s left for us to do is wait – and enjoy!

Horse racing and online gambling might seem like two vastly different worlds, but these industries have established a fascinating relationship that has flourished in the digital age. In this article, we delve into the connection between horse racing and online gambling, exploring how technology has brought these passions together and made them more similar than it may appear at first glance.
Adrenaline-Fuelled Thrills
Both are built on the foundation of excitement and adrenaline. In horse racing, the sound of hooves thundering on the track and the excitement of cheering for your chosen steed create an unmatched atmosphere of anticipation and exhilaration. Similarly, online gambling provides an adrenaline rush through immersive gameplay, high-stakes competitions, and the pursuit of victory.
Betting and Wagering
One of the most striking connections between horse racing and wagering on online casinos is the element of betting and wagering. In horse racing, spectators have long placed bets on the outcome of races, adding an extra layer of engagement and interest. The same holds true for online gambling, where players often wager on their own performance or the outcome of in-game events.
Strategy and Analysis
In horse racing, gamblers analyse a horse's form, past performances, jockey statistics, and track conditions to make informed betting decisions. Likewise, online players strategise, analyse opponents' moves, and adapt their tactics to maximise their chances of success. Whether it's picking a winning horse or devising the perfect in-game strategy, intelligence and analysis play a crucial role in both arenas.
Community and Social Interaction
Horse racing events bring people together, allowing fans to share their passion, discuss predictions, and celebrate their wins. Similarly, online gambling communities form around specific games or genres, providing players with a platform to connect, collaborate, and compete. The camaraderie and sense of belonging that develop within these communities contribute to the overall enjoyment of both activities.
Entertainment and Spectatorship
Both horse racing and online gambling are spectator sports that captivate audiences worldwide. The thrill of witnessing a close horse race or an intense poker tournament evokes a shared sense of excitement and enthusiasm among spectators. Furthermore, technological advancements in live streaming have made both horse racing and online gambling accessible to a global audience, increasing their popularity and reach.
Evolution and Adaptation
While horse racing has a rich history that spans centuries, it has also embraced modern advancements and evolved with the times. The integration of technology in horse racing has resulted in innovations such as advanced track surfaces, GPS tracking for horses, and real-time data analytics. Similarly, online gambling has continuously evolved to offer cutting-edge graphics, virtual reality experiences, and cross-platform compatibility. Both domains showcase the ability to adapt and appeal to contemporary audiences while maintaining the core elements that make them beloved activities.

Glorious Goodwood is one of the most prestigious meetings on the calendar, where some of the best equine talents in the sport line up to take each other on in the beautiful Sussex sunshine.
Glorious By Name, Glorious By Nature
So-called for the beautiful surroundings of the Goodwood racetrack, the 'Glorious' meeting takes place at the end of July and the beginning of August. Below we look at the big races of the week, and what horses to watch in 2023.
Goodwood Cup
The most popular race amongst fans and in racing betting for the week is the Group 1 Goodwood Cup, where Courage Mon Ami is the current favorite at 5/2 in 2023. Run over two miles, the race usually sees a rematch between horses that have previously run in the Ascot Gold Cup.
That is the case again in 2023, with Coltrane (3/1) and Subjectivist (11/2) just behind Courage Mon Ami in the Goodwood betting for the race. A winner of the aforementioned Ascot Gold Cup earlier in the summer, the youngster is set to face off against his Ascot rivals again and is expected to triumph once again.
Courage Mon Ami will be partnered by the soon-to-be retiring, Frankie Dettori, who will be looking to become the outright leading rider in the race with his sixth win, so the race has got plenty of interesting narratives around it.
Nassau Stakes
The fillies and mares will do battle in the Group 1 Nassau Stakes at the meeting. The 2023 renewal will see some French flare in the race, as the favorite for the race is the brilliant French-trained filly, Blue Rose Cen.
Looked after by the legendary French trainer, Christopher Head, Blue Rose Cen has just two defeats in her nine-race career to date and has been in superb form this season. This will be her first trip abroad, but if everything goes right in her preparations, she is going to prove tough to beat for the likes of Soul Sister, and Warm Heart.
Sussex Stakes
Won twice by the legendary Frankel, the Sussex Stakes is arguably the most prestigious race of the week at Glorious Goodwood. Some of the best 1-mile racehorses in history have run in the Group 1 contest, and it is usually the next port of call for horses that have run at Royal Ascot.
Once again that is the case in 2023, and this year's contest is dominated by one name, Paddington. Trained by the all-conquering, Aidan O'Brien, Paddington's only defeat came on his debut as a 2yo, and he has progressed at a rate of knots ever since.
Glorious Goodwood is one of the last big meetings of the flat racing season, and somewhat signals the passing of summer racing to autumn action. It is a fantastic meeting to follow for the top-class action on show and is a part of the season not to be missed.
